I am looking for a dog for home security, what large dog will not hurt my cat and older male dog?

Sweetkneez asked:

I have a medium size yard that is fenced but live very
near Grade Schools and High Schools, the children walk past
my yard frequently, I do not want a breed that is aggressive
with children or other pets. I live on a corner, we also
have wild rabbits and many, many squirrels and birds but I
live in a city. I am disabled and not able to walk the animal daily, but my husband insists that he wants a large dog. Please answer my question as best you can. Has anyone
ever heard of a Tatra dog? From Poland? How would I find
one?

What to do about my neighbor’s dog barking non-stop?

Written by gitterdun on April 6, 2009 – 9:16 am -

Summer asked:

My neighbor’s dog has been barking non-stop since early this morning! This is not the first time the dog has done this. I think he/ she may possibly do this while they are gone. We live in an apartment building that is very acceptable to pets(which is great!). I know that this apartment has 2 cats. We were told that the lady below us has 2 cats, a middle school aged daughter, and wanted to know more about us from the landlord before we moved in. We were also told that we were in a very quiet section. No problem. Last summer they got a dog. It barks non-stop for hours until they get home. This is not the first time. Should I write them a note?
I slipped a note under their door that said:

Your dog has been barking non-stop for hours!!! This is not the first time either. We understand that your dog may just be bored when you’re not home. Please just know that it is a nuisance to those you live by.

How does that sound?

Dog Behavior Fact or Fiction?

Written by gitterdun on February 21, 2009 – 3:22 pm -

Teddy’s Mom asked:

I adoped an 18 month old Pomerianian 18 months ago. He is very high energy and gets excited when people come to my home. I have worked hard on that and he does much better. If the person greets him pets him once and he licks them once then he goes and lays down happy and chews his bone.

I have one friend with a four year old son who is super scared of him. I have to hold the dog or put him in the cage when he is here. Then the dog cries and barks the whole time. Today we tried getting them to meet and it was going well until I let him down and he jumped on the boy..in a playful manner.

I’m thinking he senses the boys fear and wants to make up with him, not aggressive. So finally my question is it true dogs sense fear?

I think if I can get the child to calm down the dog will too.

Any thoughts?

Rhett
