Leashed dog’s reaction toward unleashed dogs’ behavior?

Written by gitterdun on February 23, 2009 – 6:53 pm -

miaugh asked:

I walk my GSD often on a leash-required trail. Most people abide the rules & there are no problems. This is the second time I’ve had myself and my dog cornered & circled by 2 dogs–labradors this time– the owners were yelling for them, but the dogs paid no attention. The owners showed up just as my dog got to the point of growling. Took them a few minutes to catch the dogs & get leashes on them so we could pass.

I understand a leashed dog, when confronted by other dogs that are off leash feels defensive. She has no problem momentarily greeting or ignoring leashed dogs.

This is the first time she’s growled. I felt a little unnerved myself, because the 2 dogs seemed to work like a team, one darting in at her from the front, the other from behind. Every time we tried to move away, they circled around and blocked us. Nobody was bitten.

I don’t want my dog getting fearful from this stuff. How do I get us out of that spot when it happens again?
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll definitely be more assertive when it happens again. (& thanks Jordie- I’ll get the spray too. Can’t hurt, & being citronella maybe it’ll fend off circling bugs at the same time. :)

Written by gitterdun on February 22, 2009 – 8:45 am -

sammi, animator in training!! :3 asked:

lol my dog is so silly :P but lately, he’s been being wierd. He sleeps on my bed and…
lays on me, or next to me. When he does this, he puts both paws on my arm. > >…?
puts his head under mine, and pushes up.
sometimes he puts his paws on my face! lol it hurts too…
he rolls around on me, puts his head on, or under my hand…
he licks me..A LOT.
on top of all this, he gets down a paces around the room alot, too.
As soon as my other dog(female)the bed he jumps off, or get’s on top of me more.
for the record, so I don’t get any stupid answers…
he’s a lab. I HAVE established dominace already, so he’s not being mean. I think it has somthing to do with attention, or protection, but I want more details.
thank you ^ ^ and by the way, actually answer the question, I’ve asked a few questions where i got a bunch of answers, but none of them answered the question, they were just jokes, or insults. please don’t do this :(
